Lawyer Visit Tsoroev demands that his client, Ingushetian resident Ramazan Dugiev, be released from jail and placed under house arrest. In addition, defense counsel doubts the validity of the charges.

An appeal against the decision of the Nalchik city court, which placed Dugiev in custody until March 24, was filed with the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria on February 19. Dugiev is being prosecuted in the rally case and charged under Part 2 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence dangerous to life or health against a representative of the authorities). The validity of the charges is questionable, and Dugiev himself does not plead guilty, said «Fortanga» Viit Tsoroev. According to him, the defense demands house arrest.

«There are about 60 victims in the rally case. Operational work is underway to identify suspects. As the information about these persons is provided, the question of their criminal liability is being solved. I would not call this a political case. There are victims and defendants. Another question is the validity of charges,» concluded the lawyer.

We should remind you that Ramazan Dugiev, a resident of the village of Kantyshevo in Nazranovsky district, was detained on February 14 in Nalchik where he arrived for questioning by an investigator after a search carried out in his house. Ramazan took part in a rally against the Ingushetia-Chechnya border agreement. The protest turned into clashes with security forces and detentions of activists. Most of those arrested in the aftermath of those events received real sentences on charges of violence against public officials. The protest leaders were sentenced to terms of imprisonment ranging from 7.5 to 9 years.
