Ilez Barakhoyev, son of political prisoner Akhmed Barakhoyev in Ingushetia, asked Ramzan Kadyrov to recognize the words he said about his father as superfluous. Ilez Barakhoyev’s appeal was a response to a call from the head of Chechnya for the Ingush side to file official complaints against him within three days.
In his address to the Ingush people Ramzan Kadyrov used unnecessary words in reference to Akhmed Barakhoyev on the state television channel Grozny, his son Ilez said.
“Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov, on what grounds did you say unnecessary words about my father? You met in Karabulak, talked to each other, resolved all your grievances against each other, shook hands, hugged and parted ways. Why are you addressing my father with such words today? I was standing next to you at that meeting, and I didn’t hear you say anything like that or use any obscene language toward my father. Why do you allow yourself to say such words today? Theappeal, which was published today on Fortanga’s Youtube channel.
Recall that since the fall of 2018 there have been rallies in Magas against the border agreement between Ingushetia and Chechnya. In October 2018, the head of Chechnya promised to “ask” one of the leaders of the protest in Ingushetia, former head of the republic’s Interior Ministry Akhmed Pogorov, for a number of statements made about Kadyrov at a rally. On October 26, 2018, Kadyrov personally visited Pogorov in Karabulak to discuss the controversy. Akhmed Barakhoyev joined the meeting. Kadyrov and his companions apologized to the Ingush.
In March 2019, the rallies turned into clashes with security forces and detentions of activists. A total of 46 people were arrested, most of them receiving real sentences on charges of violence against authorities. Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, Ismail Nalgiev, Zarifa Sautieva, Malsag Uzhakhov, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barakh Chemurziev, also detained in the rally case, were charged with extremism. On December 15, the Kislovodsk city court sentenced them to terms from 7.5 to 9 years in prison.
Ilez Barakhoyev noted that his father Akhmed Barakhoyev has been in prison for three years. However, he stressed that his appeal was not of an extremist nature.
“Why do you use superfluous words against my father? That’s the kind of complaint I have against you. You say that if you are wrong, you admit it […] I ask you respectfully, beautifully, according to Vainakh adat, to refute your words said to my father,” he said.
Barakhoyev stressed that he did not demand a public apology from Kadyrov. “I don’t need you to make a video appeal. You are the head of the republic, I’m a simple man. You can just call me and say […] even if Daudov calls and says that these words were said unnecessarily. I don’t demand an apology, just if you admit that these words were said unnecessarily, it will (be) enough for me. […] For the sake of the brotherhood of our peoples,” Barakhoyev noted. He added that if Kadyrov considers his statement appropriate, then the family will sooner or later return the unpleasant words he said to his father.
“Today I am not speaking on behalf of the people of Ingushetia, I am speaking on behalf of the Barakhoyev family. But I will certainly say what I think about the transfer of land. The responsibility for the transfer of these lands lies on the former head of the republic (Ingushetia) and only on him. You acted in the interests of your people, we understand you. But our head did not act in the interests of his people, and all the Ingush people’s complaints are directed at him,” he stressed.
Barakhoyev attributed the negative attitude of the Ingush people to Kadyrov to his “harsh, unpleasant, ugly statements about the Ingush people. “When you talk about the Council of Teips – these are representatives of the Ingush people. The main part of Ingushetia considers them its representatives. We get offended, it all builds up. After the rally, the people came out, displeased that the opinion of the people had not been taken into account. We were outraged and went to a rally. Your reaction to that rally was received very condemnably by our people. Therefore, the negativity in your direction comes from this. If you had treated us with understanding, if you had treated us according to Vainakh Adat, without any superfluous words, with respect, I swear there would not have been such negativity towards you as there is today. If we talk about the Chechen people, we have absolutely no negativity towards them. The only question is for the authorities of the Chechen Republic. So I urge you to treat the Ingush people respectfully in the future, for the sake of peace between our peoples,” Barakhoyev concluded.
“Fortanga previously wrote that Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov made harsh remarks about his critics in Ingushetia. In particular, the head of Chechnya was outraged that Yakhya Khadziev, former head of Ingushetia’s Department of Religious Affairs, publicly apologized for meeting with Kadyrov. He also recalled the arrests and trials of Ingush activists and accused the people of Ingushetia of helplessness.
The day after this speech, he recorded a video message to the Ingush people. He demanded an official complaint from the public in Ingushetia within three days.
