Akhmed Pogorov, who suffers from serious illnesses, cannot get medical care in pre-detention center No. 1 in Kabardino-Balkaria, his lawyer Magomed Gagiyev said.

The lawyer recalled that after his re-arrest in May, his condition had deteriorated sharply, in particular, his blood pressure jumped up. He was hospitalized, but later was placed in the Essentuki temporary detention facility for about ten days straight from the hospital. There the defendant became ill and an ambulance was called. And after his transfer to the pre-trial detention facility he was placed in the worst cell, which aggravated his health condition.

«In this regard, I appealed to the head of the detention center and asked to transfer [Pogorov] to a normal cell with appropriate conditions that would ensure the observance of his rights,» said the lawyer. — He was transferred to a more appropriate cell within a week. At the moment we have no complaints about the conditions. But there are questions of health conditions, Pahorov has a number of serious illnesses. Of course, I drew attention [also to the investigation] to the fact that it’s impossible to carry out examinations and treat these illnesses in the conditions of the pre-trial detention facility. This problem persists to this day».

Gagiyev said that Pogorov periodically applied to the medical unit of the detention center, but to no avail. «What kind of medical care in the pre-trial detention facility?! He goes to the medical unit, where he is periodically given some pills. It is impossible to carry out specialized treatment and observation by specialists there. Mostly his relatives give him pills and drops, but there is no one there to provide real treatment. There is no equipment and no doctors,» said Gagiyev.

We should remind that on May 25 the court decided to put Akhmed Pahorov under house arrest, but the very next day he was taken to hospital, where he was taken for interrogation. On May 26, late in the evening, a court sitting was held, at which it was decided to return Pahorou to custody. After his re-arrest, his health condition deteriorated.

Former Ingush Interior Minister Akhmed Pogorov (2002-2003) and one of the leaders of the Ingush protest was detained on 26 February 2021 in his house in Nazran and later taken to Nalchik. Pogorov was a participant in the March 26, 2019 rally in Magas and called activists to order.

Rallies against the Ingushetia-Chechnya border agreement have been held in Magas since autumn 2018. In March 2019, they turned into clashes with security forces and detentions of activists. A total of 46 people were arrested, most of them receiving real sentences on charges of violence against authorities. Seven protest leaders are also in the dock.
